Zum Roten Ochsen - Heidelberg Old Town
The inn "Zum Roten Ochsen" is one of the oldest and most traditional student restaurants in Heidelberg. Built in 1703, the restaurant in Heidelberg has been continuously owned by the Spengel family for over 185 years.
We serve home-style cooking with Heidelberg beer specialties or a glass of wine in the historic ambience of a student restaurant with many relics from over 180 years of student history.
Our well-known piano players are playing every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 to 9 pm in our restaurant. In addition to the old Heidelberg student songs, they also play classics from the years after 1950 and create the kind of atmosphere that is only known from our inn.
Impressions
We offer typical German home cooking (with our classics, such as: boiled ox breast, cider roast, "Schäufele", herring fillets, venison ragout and caraway roast.)
Vegetarian dishes such as wild mushroom ragout with bread dumplings, cheese spaetzle or homemade spinach dumplings are not to be missed.
Fresh salads, plus classics such as original Viennese schnitzel, rump steak, cordon bleu, "Maultaschen" and sauerkraut specialties and much more, round off the offering.
